CCBC Board of Trustees Member,

I am writing to urge you, the respected Board of Trustee members of The Community College of Baltimore County, to reinstate Mr. Richard Lewis as an adjunct tutor.
I am sure you will all agree that Richard Lewis has made many positive contributions to your school.
As a student his patience and willingness to help others enabled him to successfully tutor those whom others chose not to work with. Professor Drees stated in her letter of reference that, "As a student in my classes he(Richard Lewis) has always exhibited a willingness to help other students and truly operates as a member of the learning community. He has been an asset to the class"
"He has also made improvements to lab operations, for example, designing Apple scripts to purge the preference files that were causing crashes"
As the schools board of trustees I believe you are aware that Richard Lewis instructed 135 students, averaging 50 students per semester, thus making him the top tutor. The student have expressed gratitude and appreciation for the help they have received from Mr. Lewis as their tutor, as stated by a publications design student, "without the dedicated, intense, and patient help I received from Richard Lewis, I would not have been as successful as I was this semester in my course work."
The fact that Richard Lewis has been forced to resign due to a hostile work environment is not only a great loss for Mr. Lewis, but a great loss to the many students who valued his devotion and assistance in there successful scholastic progress.
It is a huge discredit to The Community College of Baltimore that the factors that led to resignation of Richard Lewis include the assertion of his rights to be paid for work rendered and the reasonable request for accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) these accommodations, had they been granted, would not have cost the school or taxpayers anything.
It is my opinion that this is discrimination against a disabled person, especially when the school itself states the following in regard to their commitment to services and accommodations for employees with disabilities.
"The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) is committed to full compliance with all laws regarding equal employment opportunity for faculty and staff with disabilities. CCBC supervisors, employees, the Office of Institutional Equity, and the Counseling Centers play an important role in ensuring that reasonable and appropriate services and accommodations are provided to employees in a timely and effective manner."
Based on the capabilities of Richard Lewis and the many recommendations confirming he is a positive asset to the school. It is in the best interest of Richard Lewis, the students whom he is dedicated to helping as well as the school itself to reinstate Richard Lewis as an adjunct tutor at The Community College of Baltimore County.
I thank you for your time and expect you will promptly act upon this matter.

Sincerely,
